Students shine at CHEO awards ceremony

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) celebrated its long-service staff at an annual awards celebration to recognize the dedication and contribution that these people have given back to the hospital. This year, on October 19, U-Rock Music School students were invited to perform during the CHEO ceremony, an honour full of excitement for the school and students. Again, due to COVID restrictions, the ceremony was held virtually for CHEO staff and family members.

Alex Munter was the Master of Ceremonies and introduced U-Rock’s stars. Two of those students were honoured to perform live from their homes for the special broadcast – Katelyn Forsyth and Savannah Philpot.

Other shining stars from the music school performed through featured videos that played during the ceremony. Those also honoured to perform were: Aidan MacLeod, Jehna Rushton, Connor McRae, Gwendalyn Brown, Sophia Tarini, Mason Hartwick, Savannah Von Teichman, as well as the Crushers C band of fall 2020, Catherine Hnatiw, Abby Thompson, Keira Dixon, Ryan White, Rob White and Landen Slaunwhite.

Cathy Hallessey, owner and teacher at U-Rock, told Stittsville Central, “We are so excited and proud to be part of this big thank you to CHEO staff and even prouder of all of our amazing U-Rock stars.”

“At U-Rock we teach our students to give back to their community through music. We are proud to be part of this very special event,” Cathy added.

“We are very excited, and also very grateful to U-Rock School of Music for agreeing to help us and connect us with these young talents and their families,” Annic Grondin the Manager of Organizational Development & Learning told Stittsville Central.
